Discover Morpeth:
Your Gateway to Newcastle and Beyond

Founded by Lieutenant Edward Close in the early 19th Century, Morpeth has a rich colonial history as a bustling river port. Trade in agricultural products such as wool, wheat, and timber was facilitated via the Hunter River, connecting Morpeth to Newcastle and coastal ports for distribution. It experienced rapid growth, transforming from its agricultural origins into a thriving and somewhat refined settlement.

The Foundry Terraces is situated on
the former site of ‘D. Sim & Sons
Iron and Brass Foundry’ which holds
significant historical importance.
Established in the mid-1800s, this
foundry was renowned for its diverse
production line.

As one of Morpeth’s largest and most
influential enterprises, it shaped the
town’s industrial landscape until its
closure in 1926. The site underwent
several transformations before being
reimagined as The Foundry Terraces,
revitalising this historic location.
